PHIL-211 Introduction to Asian Philosophy (3)This course explores whether thinking is a universal or culture-specific activity, if philosophical questions are consistent or diverse in different cultures, how cultural norms are created, and is cultural bias justifiable. The course examines Asian philosophy from the ancient to the modern by providing critical readings and discussions of primary texts in Asian philosophical traditions and offers some comparison with Western tradition. Topics include Asian approaches to and modern variations of the self, society, governing, and gender. AU Core Habits of Mind: Cultural Inquiry. AU Core Integrative Requirement: Diversity and Equity.
