SPA-620 Institute for Data Science and Big Data (4)This course provides the essential basis for doing data science as practiced in the twenty-first century. Data scientists are expected to know how to obtain relevant data for a specific problem, clean and explore the data, create models using the data, make predictions, and communicate findings to multiple audiences. The course includes lectures, guest speakers, and group assignments. Guest lecturers include data science leaders from Washington, DC's government, academic, and business communities. Statistical topics include exploratory methods, graphics, regression, machine learning, ensembles, clustering analysis, and Bayesian approaches. Specific skills include R, Python, Pandas, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, API Interactions, Social Media Mining, SQL, Tableau, and Git/GitHub. Crosslist: SPA-020 and SPA-420 . Usually Offered: spring.
