Using the insights of comparative politics, this course examines the contemporary constellation of regime types, authority structures, institutions, and state-society relations in the Middle East. It analyzes the success of the powerful and the resistance of various groups bound together by ethnic, regional, religious, class, and gender identities. Usually Offered: alternate springs. Prerequisite: GOVT-130  or GOVT-231 .
