This course teaches students how to critically read popular texts and discourse. It examines cultural productions (e.g., novels, films, plays, television shows, social media, etc.) as well as a number of theoretical essays in order to investigate how different media forms impact systems of representation through which we understand power, identity, collectivity, and political agency.
