By concentrating on African societies and states, ancient and modern, the course aims to create a greater understanding of, and empathy with, the Africans: the diversity, history, culture, accomplishments, and problems of the people and their continent; and the interaction of their culture with Islam and the West. Usually offered every term. May be taken A-F only.
