SPAN-702 Latin American History and Politics from the Margins

(3)

This course examines testimonials of individuals or groups of people whose stories do not normally get included in national histories. Stories include accounts of slavery, rural guerilla and student urban warfare, drug trafficking, and oppression due to sexual orientation. The course also looks at mainstream attempts to incorporate these marginal voices in the popular venues of their country of origin. Prerequisite: admission to MA in Spanish and Latin American Studies or proficiency in Spanish.
