(CS, PC) (MS) This course challenges students to develop critical skills in examining and analyzing the role of race and gender in the production, distribution and consumption of the American mass media. Students study these powerful institutions and their role in creating, reproducing and reinforcing racism and sexism. Focuses on media content and considers other social constructions including ethnicity, class, religion and sexual orientation. Prerequisite: minimum 2.5 GPA.
