(CS, FM) (MS) Origins and historical development of American cinema, specifically the theatrical feature-length fiction film from the nineteenth century to 1970. Hollywood films as mythic representations of the way Americans viewed themselves. Films are screened, discussed, and criticized. Screenings are scheduled in addition to class sessions. Usually offered every fall. Prerequisite: minimum 2.5 GPA.
