The seminar focuses on the development of film theory and criticism. The work of Arnheim, Eisenstein, Kracauer, Bazin, Mitry, and Metz are studied as primary sources. The relationship between theory and production is examined and applied to analysis of specific films. Usually offered every term. Prerequisite: permission of the school.
