A survey of political science research methodologies focusing on qualitative, theoretical, and empirical alternatives to positivistic approaches, based on new philosophies of science such as scientific realism. Includes alternative means of data development, cultural, structural, and functional theories applicable to political research, and theory testing. Usually offered every spring. Prerequisite: admission to PhD program or permission of the director of doctoral programs.
