TEFL-619 Curriculum Design and Material Development (3)

This course introduces students to a needs-based, context-specific, and learner-centered approach to designing curriculum and materials. Based on the analysis of existing curriculum and materials, students propose a language course or the redevelopment of an existing course for the ESL/EFL teaching context of their choosing. Through needs assessment and contextual analysis, students identify curricular goals and course objectives and then determine the appropriate syllabus structure, develop a course unit outline, plan and create lesson plans and materials for the unit, and design an assessment plan. In addition, how to evaluate the effectiveness of the course curriculum is discussed. Finally, students formally pitch the course proposal, preparing them for the real world of curriculum development. Grading: A-F only. Prerequisite: TEFL-010 , TEFL-610 , TEFL-612 , and TEFL-614 .
