This course covers the Atlantic slave trade, the African presence in Colonial America, the American Revolution, nineteenth-century American slavery, the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. The course utilizes historical eyewitness accounts, maps, and popular culture to explore the arrival and historical journey of Africans from the Colonial and Revolutionary eras through the Civil War and Reconstruction.
