SIS-650 Global Economy and Sustainable Development (3)An inquiry into the political economy of development; centered on two levels of analysis: the evolution of global economic activity in the post-World War II period; with primary focus on trade and foreign investment; and the relationship between such global economic interactions and sustainable development (in social; environmental; and economic terms) in Third World countries. Special attention is given to NGO(including labor unions); private sector and government initiatives to make trade and investment more supportive of socially and environmentally sustainable development. The course provides an introduction to corporate responsibility/ accountability. Prerequisite: SIS-637 (may be taken concurrently). |
