The modern genomics era requires that biologists understand bioinformatics, the computational analysis of large biological data sets. In this course, lectures introduce methods and concepts, and techniques are applied t during a computer lab. Course topics include sequence retrieval/alignment, Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST), an algorithm for comparing primary biological sequence information, gene prediction, phylogenetics, and bio informatics programming in Perl. Usually offered alternate falls.
