Honors in Mathematical Sciences


Available through the Department of Mathematics and Statistics , College of Arts and Sciences , the Honors in Mathematical Sciences program is open to students who are majoring in Applied Mathematics (BS) , Mathematics (BS) , Statistics (BS) , Computational Science (BS) [CAS/MATH] , and Mathematics and Economics (BS) [CAS/MATH] .        

Admission to the Program


Students seeking admission to the Honors in Mathematical Sciences program must have completed at least 45 credit hours; achieved a minimum 3.70 cumulative GPA and minimum 3.75 major GPA; completed at least two MATH or STAT courses at or above the 300-level; arranged for a department faculty member to send an admission endorsement; and sent a one-page application essay. 

Transfer students are eligible for admission if their overall undergraduate record is deemed equivalent to the above requirements. 

Any student seeking admission should consult with the department’s Honors Coordinator.

Required (6 credit hours)


Complete 6 credit hours, with grades of B or better, and honors supplements for courses at the 400-level, from the following:

Capstone (0-3 credit hours)


Complete 0-3 credit hours from the following, or other research project, as approved by Honors Coordinator:
