GOVT-333 Government and Politics of the European Union (3)


Offered as part of the AU Abroad program in Brussels, Belgium, this course is an in-depth study of the governance, politics, and evolution of the European Union (EU). It studies the EU’s institutions, and the dynamics of its internal and external policy- making processes. In this course, students learn about the structure and powers of all of the EU institutions, how these institutions interact with each other and with the member states, and the dynamics of the EU’s legislative and policy processes. Students also examine the process of accession for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, discuss the EU’s emerging Common Foreign and Security Policy, and consider what the evolution of the EU means for the rest of the world. Restriction: minimum 2.5 GPA.
