JLC-225 American Legal Culture (3) The law, lawyers, and various legal institutions exercise enormous influence in American society, touching all aspects of life from the momentous to the mundane. This course examines the diverse features and institutions of American legal culture from the colonial era to the present, such as courts, bar associations, and law schools. The course focuses on the power dynamics in the legal culture and how selected groups, including racial and ethnic minorities, women, and new immigrants, perceive, encounter, and access the legal system.
