NEUR-320 Behavioral Neuroscience with Laboratory (4)


Examines current knowledge about the neural mechanisms underlying natural behaviors, focusing on animal models. Specific emphasis is placed on communication, learning, memory, and homeostatic functions (sleep, feeding, and stress response). The lab component provides an opportunity for students to better understand concepts and methods commonly used in neuroethological and neurobiological research through hands-on experimentation. Concepts include ethical issues, design of studies, analysis of data, and data presentation. Methods include behavioral measurement, surgical procedures, optogenetics, histology, protein expression assays, and computer simulations. Usually Offered: fall. Prerequisite: NEUR-220 .
