SPA-371 Energy Policy and Politics (3)

This course examines the role of energy in modern economies and societies as well as the environmental, social, and security impacts of energy production and use. The class studies fossil fuels, nuclear, wind and solar energy, and new technologies such as tidal and advanced biomass. Particular attention is given to four aspects of the energy system: water, climate, health, and ecology. Also considered are renewable energy and efficiency and the policy, politics, and economics of technology innovation. The focus is on the United States, but global energy forces and trends are also included. Grading: A-F only.
