HIST-328 Introduction to Public History (3)

This course looks at how the scholarly study of history is translated for a wider audience and what it means to do history for, about, and with the public. Students study both theory and method by looking at the sites at which the public makes meaning from the past, as well as practice doing so themselves. Through an approach that combines case studies and best practices, guest speakers, site visits, and applied projects, students complete a survey of public history’s forms and approaches and gain a good sense of public history as a mode of inquiry and as a professional field. Grading: A-F only.
