EDU-758 Numbers, Operations, and Algebraic Reasoning (2) This course focuses on building the content understandings and pedagogical skills to teach elementary mathematics. Participants investigate the procedures, concepts, models, and representations that are required to understand our base ten number system and operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Additionally, participants explore the Math Workshop structure for teaching mathematics equitably to all children. They understand how to plan and facilitate a student-centered Math Workshop lesson, including the design or selection of a cognitively demanding task. The course gives particular attention to the importance of the representation and communication of mathematical thinking and reasoning. It emphasizes the design of rigorous instruction and talk moves that deepen thinking and encourage student synthesis of mathematical ideas. Grading: A-F only.
