GOVT-314 Liberalism and Its Critics (3) This course explores the development of liberal political philosophy in the twentieth century. The course focuses on influential liberal thinkers who each contribute to different strands of liberal theory: Isaiah Berlin, John Rawls, Bernard Williams, and Judith Shklar. The course considers a variety of critical perspectives that in some way or another rebuke or repudiate liberalism. These perspectives include virtue ethics, poststructuralism, anticolonialism, civic republicanism, conservatism, and post-liberalism. Prerequisite: GOVT-105 .
