HIST-327 Europe After Hitler (3)

This course explores the legacies Hitler left for Europe: a broken, divided continent traumatized by apocalyptic devastation, extreme ideological intolerance, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. Emphasis is given to the Nuremberg trials, the Eichmann trial, postwar forced migrations and national homogenization, the politics of urban reconstruction, decolonization, forms of European integration, the advent of environmental consciousness, and loaded questions about who belongs inside Europe’s boundaries, as well as where those boundaries should be. Ideological, political, and socioeconomic differences across the Iron Curtain are examined alongside common inheritances, practices, and experiences before and after 1989.
