SOCY-215 The Rise of Critical Social Thought (3) This course discusses how critical visions of society have appeared over time, including imagined social possibilities and comparisons to existing social institutions. The course covers the development of the idea of the individual self, state-formation, and national communities. It also addresses the effects of industrialization and migration, social change, and the limits of social science knowledge as a guide to planning and policy making.
