HIST-404 Nationalism (3) Explores key scholarly conversations about the origins, evolution, and appeal of nationalism as a mutable, human-made phenomenon. With particular emphasis on Europe, this course introduces nationalism in theory and practice, tracing its inception as a basis for human group identity during and after the French Revolution; its establishment as the basis for nation-state legitimacy; and its influence in motivating extreme intolerance and violence over the course of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Crosslist: HIST-604 .
