Department Overview

Computer Science programs prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities in software development, computer systems design, information technology, computational theory, data science, artificial intelligence, game development, cybersecurity, and other technical computing professions. They ensure a balanced presentation of the practical and theoretical aspects of computer science and provide students with a new background for professional employment or further graduate study in the discipline.

Computer Science technology is at the heart of today’s society and many people entering society realize its importance. However, different people seek to interact with this technology in different ways. Some students love computer technology and theory for its own sake and want to contribute to their improvement. The Computer Science (BS)  provides a strong technical foundation while the Computational Science (BS)  emphasizes a robust background in both mathematics and computer science.

In  Academic Year 2024/25, the department announces two new undergraduate degree programs. The Computer Science (BA)  allows students to reach levels of technical fluency while also encouraging parallel pursuit of other disciplines in the sciences, social sciences, or humanities. The Computational Media and Applied Perception (BA)  encourages students interested in the intersection of computer science and art, games, data visualization, psychology, or design.

The Department of Computer Science thus offers all students multiple avenues to apply computer knowledge to related fields of interest, preparing them for careers in diverse fields where technological expertise is either necessary or a valuable asset.
