Minor Requirements
- 21 credit hours with grades of C or better, a minimum of 12 credits at or above 300-level, and at least 12 credit hours unique to the minor
- All courses at or above 300-level and at least 12 of the 21 credit hours in history must be taken at American University
Ancient or Medieval History (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours in ancient or medieval history (any area of the world, focusing on premodern era) from the following, or other approved courses: Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, or African History (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours in Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, or African history from the following, or other approved courses: Note: Faculty members frequently offer rotating courses in these areas of the world under HIST-396 . European History (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours in European history from the following, or other approved courses: United States History (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours in United States History from the following, or other approved courses: History Electives (9 credit hours)
Note: With department approval, up to 6 credit hours earned from Advanced Placement (AP) and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations in history may be counted toward this requirement. - 9 credit hours in additional history coursework
