Honors in Psychology

Available through the Department of Psychology , College of Arts and Sciences , the Honors in Psychology program allows students to plan and execute psychological research; learn to ethically conduct research; and acquire advanced skills in research methodology.

Admission to the Program
Students should apply for the Honors in Psychology program in the spring of their sophomore year. Students may apply in their junior year, but it is their responsibility to ensure that all requirements will be met by the end of the senior year. At the time of the application, students must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative and major GPA. Students must submit a two-page written proposal outlining the methodology of their honors capstone research project, to be reviewed by the director of the honors program in consultation with the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.
Program Requirements
- 13 credit hours of Honors in Psychology coursework
- Minimum 3.67 major GPA in Psychology (BA) (must be reached by end of junior year)
Honors Colloquium (3 credit hours)
- 3 credit hours in an honors colloquium or an interdisciplinary science honors course approved by the honors program director with grade of C or better
Research Design (4 credit hours)
Complete 4 credit hours from the following, with grade of B- or better:
Elective (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours from the following, with grade of C or better:
Capstone (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours from the following, in an honors capstone research project under the mentorship of a full-time faculty member in psychology and approved by the honors program director:
Note: This project cannot be the same study developed in the advanced research methods course; however, it can be a substantial expansion of that study.
