Major Requirements


  • 42 credit hours with grades of C or better, including at least 24 credit hours at or above 300-level
    • No more than 12 credit hours may be at 100- or 200-level unless approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies
    • Up to 9 credit hours outside the Sociology department may be approved. This includes study abroad, Honors, and Consortium courses, and courses in a related department. With the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Studies, more than 9 credit hours can be applied from study abroad or other programs of distinction

Capstone (3 credit hours)


Complete 3 credit hours from the following:

Department Emphasis (12 credit hours)


Complete 12 credit hours from one of the following areas of department emphasis, or other approved courses:

Electives (15 credit hours)


  • 15 credit hours in SOCY-XXX with no more than 9 credit hours at 100- or 200-level unless approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies
