Admission to the Program

Formal admission to the major requires department approval.

120 credit hours with minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA (Undergraduate Academic Regulation 2 )
Completion of all requirements for a major (Undergraduate Academic Regulation 9 )

Completion of AU Core foundation requirements (Undergraduate Academic Regulation 8.2-8.6 )
Completion of AU Core Habits of Mind requirements (Undergraduate Academic Regulation 8.7 )
Completion of AU Core integrative course requirements (Undergraduate Academic Regulation 8.8-8.11 )

42 credit hours with grades of C or better, including at least 24 credit hours at or above 300-level
- No more than 12 credit hours may be at 100- or 200-level unless approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies
- Up to 9 credit hours outside the Sociology department may be approved. This includes study abroad, Honors, and Consortium courses, and courses in a related department. With the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Studies, more than 9 credit hours can be applied from study abroad or other programs of distinction

15 credit hours in SOCY-XXX with no more than 9 credit hours at 100- or 200-level unless approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies

Students interested in applying to this combined program should consult with their advisor and other faculty members before formal application is begun
Undergraduate students may apply up to 9 credit hours from SOCY-612 Social Theory: From Classical to Contemporary Thinkers (3) , SOCY-625 Practicum in Sociological Research: Issues in Health, Risk, and Society (3) , and SOCY-621 Introduction to Quantitative Research (3) or SOCY-624 Introduction to Qualitative Research (3) to satisfy the requirements of both degrees
