Statistics (MS)

Offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics , College of Arts and Sciences . The Statistics (MS) is an excellent way for students to further their mathematical and statistical education. In this program, students acquire proficiency in the development, research, and analysis of quantitative tools to turn ideas into intelligent, informed actions. The program offers tracks in Theory and Methods or Biostatistics, and a full range of courses that prepares students to advance their career in academic, government, non-profit, or industry settings, or to continue as a student in a PhD program. With increasing demand for statisticians and data analysts, the Statistics (MS) program provides students with a key skill set for a successful career path. 

Admission to the Program

In addition to meeting the minimum university requirements for graduate study, applicants are expected to have an adequate background in the mathematical sciences. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required. Students entering the MS program without the appropriate background are expected to take certain undergraduate courses as prerequisite work.

Degree Requirements

  • 30 credit hours of approved graduate work
    • All statistics and mathematics coursework must be completed with a grade of B or better
  • Capstone Experience: Students must complete the thesis or non-thesis option. All coursework for the thesis or nonthesis option must be completed with grades of B or better
  • Specializations: Biostatistics; Theory and Methods

Focus Group (6 credit hours)

Complete one of the following focus groups:

Capstone (6 credit hours)
