Honors in Anthropology

Available through the Department of Anthropology , College of Arts and Sciences , the Honors in Anthropology program provides an opportunity for students wanting to engage with Anthropology more deeply than in the regular major.

Admission to the Program

Students must apply for admission by May 1 of their sophomore year. Transfer students must apply during their first year of residence at AU.

Students seeking admission to the program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and a major GPA of 3.67 or higher. The application must include a clear, well-written essay expressing a central interest in Anthropology and pursuing Honors in Anthropology. Students seeking admission must have completed or be enrolled in all required major courses except ANTH-453 and ANTH-452 .

15-18 credit hours of Honors in Anthropology coursework
Minimum 3.67 major GPA in Anthropology (BA)

ANTH-490 Independent Study Project in Anthropology (1-6) (3-6 credit hours required)

Electives (6 credit hours)

Complete 6 credit hours from the following, or other approved coursework:
