Political Thought (Undergraduate Certificate)


Offered by the Department of Government , School of Public Affairs , the Lincoln Scholars program, culminating in the Political Thought (Undergraduate Certificate), uses classic and contemporary texts in politics, philosophy, economics, and literature to foster discussion about moral and political controversies in a context of intellectual diversity. Students study foundational texts while learning how to talk with colleagues of different viewpoints.

Admission to the Program


New students apply before they arrive on campus in the fall of their first year. Under some circumstances, students may also be admitted at the beginning of their second semester in the university. Due to the intensive, cohort-based nature of the program, it is not possible to transfer into the program at other times.

Certificate Requirements


15 credit hours of approved coursework with grades of C or better. Grades of C- or D in certificate program courses will not be accepted toward the fulfillment of certificate requirements although these grades will be included in the calculation of the cumulative grade point average. Students must have a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA in certificate courses in order to be awarded a certificate. Students in certificate programs must take a minimum of 6 credit hours during each 12-month period after they are admitted. International students must enroll in 12 credit hours each semester (except for summer). No transfer credit may be applied toward the certificate.
