Offered by the Department of Biology , College of Arts and Sciences , this is a research degree that may serve as an intermediate degree for those intending to pursue further graduate study, as well as a necessary degree for a variety of careers in the life sciences.

Admission to the Program
Applicants must meet the minimum university requirements for graduate study. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test is optional. International applicants whose first language is not English are required to submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. Preference is given to applicants with a clear interest in working in the research laboratory of one of the full-time faculty members in the department. Upon admittance, students must select either the thesis or nonthesis option. Admission requirements to each option are the same.
Degree Requirements
- 30 credit hours of approved graduate work
- Specializations: Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
- Capstone Experience: Journal Article Presentation and 6 credit hours from one of the following options:
Required (9 credit hours)
Statistics (3 credit hours)
Complete 3 credit hours from the following: Specialization (12 credit hours)
Complete one of the following specializations: Cell and Molecular Biology
Complete 12 credit hours from the following, or other courses approved by graduate program director or thesis advisor:
Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Complete 12 credit hours from the following, or other courses approved by graduate program director or thesis advisor:
Capstone (6 credit hours)
Complete 6 credit hours from one of the following options:
