Admission to the Program
Applicants must meet the minimum university requirements for graduate study. Admission is based on academic record, two letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and an academic writing sample. Degree Requirements
- 33 credit hours of approved graduate work
- Capstone Experience: Completion of one qualifying paper and a capstone project
- Specializations: Global Philosophy, Religion, and Culture; History of Philosophy; Social Policy and Applied Ethics
Proseminar (3 credit hours)
Core (9 credit hours)
Complete 9 credit hours with one course from each of the following fields of study: Global Philosophy, Religion, and Culture
- 3 credit hours from Global Philosophy, Religion, and Culture field of study coursework, chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor
History of Philosophy
- 3 credit hours from History of Philosophy field of study coursework, chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor
Social Policy and Applied Ethics
- 3 credit hours from Social Policy and Applied Ethics field of study coursework, chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor
Specializations (21 credit hours)
Complete one of the following specializations: Global Philosophy, Religion, and Culture
Required (12 credit hours)
Complete 12 credit hours from the following: Electives (9 credit hours)
Complete 9 credit hours from the following if not taken to fulfill Required, or other courses approved by advisor: Note: Students are encouraged to take all of their electives within the Department of Philosophy and Religion. However, up to six credits may be taken in other disciplines, with approval from the graduate advisor. Required (12 credit hours)
Complete 12 credit hours from the following: Electives (9 credit hours)
