Audio Technology (MA)

Offered by the Department of Performing Arts , College of Arts and Sciences . American University’s Audio Technology (MA) prepares students for employment and research in a wide range of audio related fields that range from Music Production to Virtual Reality Audio to Higher Education and Post-Production. Current and past employers include the BBC, Sirius XM, The Brookings Institution, The Library of Congress, Polk Audio, National Geographic, Capitol Recording, Austin City Limits, NPR, Old Dominion University, Howard University, and the SAE Institute, among others.

Admission to the Program


Applicants must meet the minimum university requirements for graduate study.

Course Requirements


Core (12 credit hours)


Note: Students who wish a more foundational studio experience may take ATEC-615  or ATEC-616 , in replacement of ATEC-617 , with advisor approval.

Capstone (3 credit hours)


Complete 3 credit hours from the following:

Note: Students graduating in the Fall semester may complete ATEC-690  (3 credit hours) for the capstone experience. Students graduating in the Spring semester must complete ATEC-750 .
