Admission to the Program

Formal admission to the major requires a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) and departmental approval.

University Requirements

120 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better
Completion of college writing requirement
Completion of university mathematics requirement

General Education Requirements

A total of ten courses, consisting of two courses from each of the five foundational areas
At least one course from Area Five: The Natural and Mathematical Sciences must include a laboratory science component
No more than two courses may be taken in the same discipline

Major Requirements

53 credit hours with grades of C or better, including 32 credit hours of core coursework and 21 credit hours in track coursework, and at least 22 credit hours at or above the 300-level
Tracks: Applied Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematical Statistics

Combined Statistics (BS) and Statistics (MS)

In addition to meeting the minimum university requirements for combined bachelor’s/master’s programs:

Students are encouraged to contact the Statistics (MS) program director as early in their undergraduate study as possible.
Applicants should have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in major courses and complete MATH-401 Probability (3) and STAT-402 Introduction to Mathematical Statistics (3) by the end of the junior year.

Combined Statistics (BS) and Professional Science: Biostatistics (MS)

In addition to meeting the minimum university requirements for combined bachelor’s/master’s programs:

Students are encouraged to contact the Professional Science: Biostatistics (MS) program director as early in their undergraduate study as possible.
Applicants should have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and complete MATH-221 Calculus I (4) , MATH-222 Calculus II (4) , and two courses in statistics by the end of the junior year.
