SPA-351 Constitutional Law II: Civil Rights and Liberties (3) This course explores the evolution of U.S. Constitutional law of civil rights and liberties, and the social and political context in which the law has developed. Emphasis is on the Bill of Rights and the post-Civil War amendments to the U.S. Constitution, and the Supreme Court’s major decisions that have defined the laws of free speech and press, free exercise and non-establishment of religion, equality and challenges to discrimination on grounds of race, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, privacy, reproductive rights, and the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Usually Offered: spring. Prerequisite: GOVT-105 or GOVT-110 . Recommendation: SPA-350 .
