CHIN-411 Chinese Civilization: Tradition and Transformation (3)


This course is an introduction to Chinese civilization, one of the most ancient civilizations in the world with a view to better understanding present-day China. It examines China as a diverse set of geographical, historical, and cultural entities by focusing on selected topics and issues that link various periods in China’s past with the present. This course also serves as a bridge course for students with at least three years of college Chinese or equivalent. Using multimedia materials from and on various periods, it aims to help further develop students’ Chinese language proficiency through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Usually Offered: fall. Prerequisite: CHIN-410 .
