GOVT-324 Latinos in U.S. Politics and Society (3)

What is Latino politics, and is it different from U.S. politics more generally? In this course, students consider questions about Latinos in contemporary U.S. politics and society, the ways in which Latino identity shapes and is shaped by power, and how Latino subgroup differences by generation, region, national origin, and religious affiliation help to understand the broader story of Latino politics in the United States. Topics examined include what is known about Latino voting patterns and political preferences and how that data is gathered; whether there is a ‘Latino vote’; how U.S. institutions, immigration, and public policy impact Latinos; and how U.S. institutions, immigration, and public policies are impacted by Latinos. AU Core Habits of Mind: Cultural Inquiry. AU Core Integrative Requirement: Diversity and Equity. Recommendation: GOVT-110 .
