Business Fundamentals (Graduate Certificate)


Offered by the Kogod School of Business , the Business Fundamentals (Graduate Certificate) is designed to provide basic knowledge and skills needed for subsequent graduate-level study of business and management topics.

Graduate students have the option to pair the Business Fundamentals certificate with other university graduate certificates or to complement another master’s degree. Credit hours for courses satisfactorily completed through this certificate may be applied to some specialized master’s degree programs or the Business Administration (MBA) [Full-Time]  program with permission of the respective program director. No credit hours may be applied to the Business Administration (MBA) [Online Professional] .

Admission to the Program


Open to students with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution with a satisfactory grade point average. Applicants whose first language is not English must have a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Not eligible for F-1 or J-1 visa sponsorship.

Students are admitted to the Business Fundamentals (Graduate Certificate) program for either January, April, July, or October start dates of the online programs four-term calendar, or the fall, spring, or summer start dates of the on-campus programs semester calendar.

Certificate Requirements


  • 12 credit hours of approved graduate work with grades of B or better. Grades of B- or lower in this certificate program’s courses are not accepted toward the fulfillment of certificate requirements, although these grades are included in the calculation of the GPA. Students must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA in certificate courses in order to be awarded a certificate. Students must complete at least 6 credit hours during each 12 month period. Students must complete the certificate within four years
