Peace Corps Prep (Undergraduate Certificate)


Admission to the Program


Open to students enrolled in the International Studies (BA)  program or the International Studies (Minor)  program with at least first-semester sophomore standing or equivalent.

Certificate Requirements


  • 25 credit hours of approved coursework with grades of C or better. Grades of C- or D in certificate program courses will not be accepted toward the fulfillment of certificate requirements although these grades will be included in the calculation of the cumulative grade point average. Students must have a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA in certificate courses in order to be awarded a certificate. Students in certificate programs must take a minimum of 6 credit hours during each 12-month period after they are admitted. All programs must be completed within four years. Additional recommended coursework compatible with Peace Corps work sectors is available across the university and can be discussed with an academic advisor

Course Requirements


Intercultural Competence AU Experience I (1.5 credit hours)


Complete 1.5 credit hours from the following:

Intercultural Competence AU Experience II (1.5 credit hours)


Complete 1.5 credit hours from the following:

Intercultural Competence Foundational Experience (6 credit hours)


Thematic Areas (9 credit hours)


Complete the following:

  • 3 credit hours from a gateway course
  • 6 credit hours at or above 300-level from that thematic area

Environmental Sustainability and Global Health (V)


Global Inequality and Development (D)


Identity, Race, Gender, and Culture (I)


Community Service-Learning Project (1 credit hour)


Internship (3 credit hours)


Complete 3 credit hours from the following within the same sector as the chosen thematic area:

Foreign Language (3 credit hours)


  • 3 credit hours in one modern foreign language at or above the Intermediate II level
