Honors in Health Studies

Available through the Department of Health Studies , College of Arts and Sciences , the Honors in Health Studies program allows outstanding students in the major the opportunity to pursue their majors in greater depth through advanced coursework and an independent scholarly research project with a faculty mentor. The program is designed to be a mark of distinction for undergraduate students, in all majors within the department, with outstanding academic performance and to promote scholarly development.

Admission to the Program
Students should apply to the Honors in Health Studies program during the spring of their sophomore year.
Students seeking admission to the program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and a major GPA of 3.67 or higher. Students must submit a résumé or CV and a written proposal that demonstrates evidence of the student’s engagement in the major and the health field. Students must also have completed or be enrolled in four required HLTH courses.
Program Requirements
- 9 credit hours of Honors in Health Studies coursework
- 6 credit hours in upper-level coursework with approved honors supplements
- 3 credit hours in honors independent research project, with public presentation
- Minimum 3.67 major GPA in Health Promotion (BS) , Public Health (BA) , or Public Health (BS)

Complete 3 credit hours from the following, in an honors independent research project:
