Admission to the Program
Open to undergraduate degree and nondegree students. Certificate Requirements
- 15 credit hours of approved coursework with at least 9 credit hours at the 300-level or above, with grades of C or better. Three credit hours at the 200-level (“Gateway Requirement”) should also be taken. Grades of C- or D in certificate program courses are not accepted toward the fulfillment of certificate requirements, although these grades will be included in the calculation of the GPA. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA in certificate courses in order to be awarded a certificate. Students in certificate programs must take a minimum of 6 credit hours during each 12-month period and complete the certificate in four years. International students must enroll in 12 credit hours each semester (except for summer). A maximum of 3 credit hours earned at an accredited college or university may be applied toward the certificate as transfer credit.
- No more than 6 credit hours toward the overall 15 credit hours may be completed from study abroad.
- Language Proficiency: Complete two courses of language instruction in Chinese, Korean, or other Asian languages approved by the Asian Studies director, or one advanced course taught in that language.
Gateway Requirement (3 credit hours)
Complete one of the following courses: Electives (12 credit hours)
Complete four courses (12 credit hours), with at least 9 credit hours at the 300-level or above, from the following or other courses approved by the faculty advisor. No more than two courses (6 credit hours) taken through study abroad may be counted toward the certificate course requirements. Up to 3 credit hours from a capstone course may be counted toward the certificate course requirements, but capstone course is not required.
