Nutrition Education (MS)

Offered by the Department of Health Studies , College of Arts and Sciences , the online MS in Nutrition Education provides candidates with more focused theoretical and practical training in the field of nutrition. Graduates are able to develop programming and intervention skills related to nutrition, and to design and implement nutrition education programs in corporations, government organizations, schools, and universities. The program provides an education that balances scientific principles of nutrition with education and program planning for improved nutrition behavior. This program provides a stepping stone to the Certified Nutrition Specialist® credential. Additional coursework in clinical nutrition, bio/life sciences, and biochemistry, beyond what is included in this program, as well as supervised practice experience, are necessary for CNS® eligibility.

Admission to the Program


In addition to meeting the minimum university requirements for graduate study, applicants must provide transcripts of all college work demonstrating a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work and in all graduate work from an accredited institution of higher education, GRE scores, a statement of purpose, and two letters of recommendation.

Degree Requirements


  • 30 credit hours of approved graduate coursework with grades of C or better, with at least 15 credits at the 600-level or above, and including 24 credits of core courses
