Statistics (BS)

Admission to the Program


Formal admission to the major requires a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) and departmental approval.

University Requirements


  • 120 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better
  • Completion of college writing requirement
  • Completion of university mathematics requirement

General Education Requirements


  • A total of ten courses, consisting of two courses from each of the five foundational areas
  • At least one course from Area Five: The Natural and Mathematical Sciences must include a laboratory science component
  • No more than two courses may be taken in the same discipline

Major Requirements


  • 53 credit hours with grades of C or better; 38 credit hours of core coursework and 15 credit hours in track coursework
  • Tracks: Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics

Complete one of the following:

Mathematical Statistics (15 credit hours)


  • 6 credit hours of approved statistics coursework at the 300-level or above
    • Note: STAT-514  may not be used to satisfy this requirement.
  • 9 credit hours of approved mathematics or statistics coursework at the 300-level or above
    • Note: CSC-281  may count toward this requirement. STAT-514  may not be used to satisfy this requirement.

Applied Statistics (15 credit hours)


  • 3 credit hours of approved coursework in mathematics or statistics
  • 12 credit hours of approved coursework in a related field

Combined BS in Mathematics or Statistics and MS in Statistics
