The School of Professional and Extended Studies Gap Program offers students a one or two semester Washington, DC immersion experience. The Gap Program is designed for students who have finished high school and are taking time off before formally starting college. Students earn 7 credit hours per semester from American University for an internship experience (3 days/week Mentored Field Practicum) and a classroom seminar (2 days/week). Seminar classes are interactive sessions featuring guest speakers and site visits. The internship is guided by an AU professor who meets regularly with students to discuss professional development topics related to the internship experience.

Complete one of the following:

GOVT-110 Politics in the United States FA4 (3-4) (3 credit hours required)
3 credit hours of approved coursework in Global Business
3 credit hours of approved coursework in International Affairs
