Return to: Academic Programs
Offered by the School of Professional and Extended Studies , the International Gap Program offers students a one semester or summer session in Washington, DC with a service learning experience. The program is designed for international students who have finished high school and take time off before formally starting college. In the fall or spring semesters, students earn 12 credit hours and during the summer session, students earn 6 credit hours. The seminar classes are interactive sessions featuring guest speakers and site visits. Students also participate in an enriching service learning experience. The service learning is guided by an AU professor who meets regularly with students to discuss personal and professional development as it relates to the service learning experience.
International students are classified as nondegree, full-time students while enrolled at AU in this program because students are issued a U.S. Government Form I-20 by AU to obtain an F1 visa for the program.
