Modular Master’s Program (MA)


Admission to the Program


Applicants must meet the minimum university requirements for graduate study. Admission is based on the academic record and two letters of recommendation. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test is required for modules in Biostatistics, Economic Analysis, and Nutrition Education. Admission is not automatic for students who qualify and may be limited by programmatic constraints.

Degree Requirements


  • 30 credit hours of approved graduate coursework; including 24 credit hours in 2 modules (12 credit hours each), 3 credit hours of practicum, and 3 credit hours of intensives
  • Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
  • All coursework must be completed within four years

Complete two modules (24 credit hours) from the following:

Biostatistics


The Biostatistics module teaches the tools, methods, and patterns of thought needed to creatively address problems that arise in the health disciplines. The program graduates are prepared to work closely with researchers and professionals in the health and medical fields.

Business Analytics


The Business Analytics module provides students with quantitative, analytical, and data science knowledge and skills to complement the paired module.

Business Fundamentals


The Business Fundamentals module provides students with a solid foundation and business knowledge and skills to complement the paired module.

Elective (3 credit hours)

  • 3 credit hours of approved, graduate-level business coursework

Digital Media


Digital Media is offered online for students interested in learning how to use social media in the digital media landscape. Courses provide skills training, and examine theories behind new methods of conveying information, how audiences react to messaging, and how media adapts its message. A background in digital media is not required.

Economic Analysis


Students use economic theory to make predictions about how government or other events affect market price and quantity, the distribution of welfare in society, and how to use econometrics to rigorously test these predictions. It prepares students for careers in economic analysis in federal government agencies, economic consulting firms, non-governmental organizations, and private firms.

Entrepreneurship


The Entrepreneurship module provides students with practical entrepreneurial mindsets, skills, and experiences to assist in starting or growing business, nonprofit, or social ventures.

Nutrition Education


Nutrition Education is for students interested in expanding into nutrition education or for professionals involved with creating programs and implementing policies related to nutrition and food issues. Students learn basic nutrition science and strategies for designing, implementing, and evaluating nutrition education programs.

Project Monitoring and Evaluation


Offered online, Project Monitoring and Evaluation equips students with the technical skills necessary to design and implement program-based monitoring and evaluation, focusing on donor-funded programs mainly located in developing countries. Coursework prepares graduates to carry out monitoring activities and performance and impact evaluations using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method approaches.

Strategic Communication


Strategic Communication is online optional, and designed to teach students how to target an audience, create a compelling message, write persuasively, and advocate in a changing world of new media and cutting edge technology. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in strategic communication for public and private sector organizations.

Practicum (3 credit hours)


  • 3 credit hours in field experience or incubator lab related to two selected modules
