International Accelerator Program (Undergraduate)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs

The undergraduate International Accelerator Program (IAP) is a non-degree bridge program comprised of three distinct program tracks: The Extended Accelerator, the Academic Accelerator, and the Integrated Accelerator. Students are placed in a program track based on GPA and English language proficiency level. IAP helps to ease the transition for international students to American University by combining credit-bearing academic courses from the first year of the degree with additional support, teaching, and cultural experiences. The Extended Accelerator Program is a three-term program during which students earn up to 33 credit hours transferable to an undergraduate degree. The Academic Accelerator Program and Integrated Accelerator Program are two-term programs during which students earn up to 30 credit hours transferable to an undergraduate degree.

IAP helps students strengthen critical academic reading, writing, and oral communication while fully immersing them in the U.S. academic culture. Students in IAP have the opportunity to take coursework in undergraduate schools and departments across campus including the English Language and Training Academy (Undergraduate) , the School of Professional & Extended Studies , Kogod School of Business , School of Communication , School of International Service  and the College of Arts and Sciences . Upon successful completion of the IAP curriculum and meeting progression requirements, IAP students may transfer to the university as degree-seeking students.
